Sea Captains were revered in the 18th and 19th centuries. Before roads were built the seaways connected resources to communities and supplies to inaccessible areas. Marine towing has played a vital part in the evolution of water transport and an essential role in shipping. It was men like Oscar Scarf that met the necessities of the day and were considered the lifeline on the West Coast.
Oscar’s longtime association with James Dunsmuir reflected a uniquely honourable friendship that refined their lives in a deep interweaving of integrity and harmony.
